DiversityGisEditor
The Diversity GIS Editor is an application component of the database framework Diversity Workbench. As stand-alone application it might be installed either as part of a DWB network environment or in a personal local installation. Furthermore, the Diversity GIS Editor is an integrated part of three other DWB applications, i. e., DiversityCollection, DiversityGazetteers and DiversitySamplingPlots.
The Diversity GIS Editor is a tool to create, visualize, edit and store samples within a geographical environment.
In combination with a background map, equipped with world coordinates, collections of Microsoft SQL Geometry Objects (points, lines and areas) may be displayed and edited in their geographical context. The screen and world coordinates of the objects will be calculated and shown in the status line. Color, thickness and transparency of the elements can be adjusted. The working area which keeps the maps and objects may be shifted or zoomed.
The background map could either be loaded from a storage device or created with an online map server tool provided by the editor. Other maps without world coordinates may be adjusted to the background map easily by setting 3 pairs of reference points on the background and the new map. The calculated world coordinates will be assigned and stored when the new map is saved.
A GPS functionality has been integrated. If a GPS device is connected, the current position will be displayed and - if an applicable background map is loaded - marked on the map.
For download of test versions check DiversityGISeditor clients for beta testing.

Previous versions
These applications are built for Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 or higher. Please make sure you have the correct version of this software already installed on your computer! (Check under control panel -> Software for Microsoft .Net Framework).
New features and fixes:
- The GIS Editor now supports loading of csv files with Gauss-Krüger coordinates.
- The sample switching on working area is now turned off when DWB clients operate in Viewer mode.
- A progress bar is shown when switching samples (takes long on certain PCs).
- GIS-Viewer had to be adapted due to changes in Google Maps API.
- Bugfix: Conversion error when reading longitude, latitude from TAB-separated textfiles has been fixed.
New features and fixes:
- Shapes and samples now can be switched off and on directly on the working area using the mouse buttons analog to the toggle buttons: left button affects selected object, right button affects all other objects. This is only possible in Shift mode to avoid confusion or interaction in other modes.
- The transparency of the switched off elements now can be adjusted using the opacity slider in the settings: opacity 0% means invisible, opacity 100% means fully visible.
- The frame for saving a part of the working area now also can be used to make a (pre)selection of the samples there. Activate the frame in the settings, adjust it to the area of interest and press the right mouse button to switch off all samples outside of the frame. This is useful if lots of samples are displayed and you just want to see a certain region of them. The frame is only visible in Shift mode.
- Selecting samples on the working area by mouse or frame is deactivated in GIS view mode of other DWB modules using the enbedded GIS Editor.
- There are 4 new point symbols which have been requested by users: Pyramid, Cone, Minus and Questionmark.
- The artificial blank reference area will no longer be removed automatically after loading non aligned maps. It has caused problems when loading additional non aligned maps.
- New DWB interface function added to load and display samples on a selected offline map.
- New DWB interface function added to deliver samples as GeometryCollection for the database.
- New DWB interface function added to switch frame on or off remotely.
- New DWB interface function added to set the opacity of samples remotely.
- Bugfix regarding the loading of samples, if not in Map mode.
New features and fixes:
- The GIS-Editor now can handle shapes on non georeferenced pictures (e.g. display of many insects in a box, which are marked with rectangles). Therefor a number of interface functions is provided to load a picture from a web server, display a shape on it and zoom to fit to the relevant pane. For this a default coordinate system for the picture is created. (Not supported in the stand alone version)
- Delete all samples now removes the current working sample, too.
New features and fixes:
- The artificial blank reference area which is used to adjust a non north aligned map now will be removed automatically after loading.
- Tooltip artefacts of the Add button which may occur on some computers when freezing a web browser map now are avoided by placing the button tooltip outside of the working area.
- The handling of loading maps has been improved and simplyfied: Georeferenced maps are put to the sample list immediately, maps without coordinates still need user interaction by pressing the Add button, to allow georeferencing the map first.
- When reading ArcView shapes and no attribute file has been found (or no MS Access Database Engine is installed) the user now may cancel the loading of the shape.
- The supported ArcView shape types have been extended and completed by PointZ, PointM, MultiPointZ, MultiPointM, PolyLineZ, PolyLineM, PolygonZ and PolygonM.
- OSM "Cycle map" now displays watermarks (restricted use, API key and Thunderforest account is needed) and has been replaced by "ESRI World Street Map".
New features and fixes:
- Bugfix: Attributes of ArcView shapes were not assigned at all when only ID had been selected. This has been fixed.
- Improvements for TAB separated shape files implemented:
- Bugfix: When saving Multipolygon shapes the additional longitude and latitude output columns were not correct. This has been fixed.
- Additional longitude and latitude output parameters now set to the midpoint (envelope center) of the shape, not to the first coordinate.
- The radiobutton contents of the input parameters area are cut to 100 characters, to avoid extremely large text display e. g. in case of huge shapes.
- If a single shape is too complex (e. g. lots of polygons) the color animation when touching the togglebutton has been disabled, because it takes too long.
New features and fixes:
- Web browser window adapted due to changes in Google Maps API
- Getting altitude values from GeoNames server when saving shapes is enabled again
- GPS Exchange File support added: Read shapes from GPX files
- OSM service: Deactivated MapQuest layers replaced by ESRI Aerial World and Komoot Topo World
New features and fixes:
- Display significant progress bars for reading and writing big ArcView shape files
- Replace commas with decimal points for non integer parameters when reading TAB separated shape files
- Settings slider values conversion adapted to one digit after decimal point
- Assign tool tips for icon object markers, too
New features and fixes:
- Toggle button rightclick: If checked, uncheck all other buttons; if unchecked: Check all other buttons.
- Interface call from other DWB applications: If no coordinates are sent for Web browser adaption, zoom in to 50% to reduce multiple world display.
New features and fixes:
- Read Shapes: Open File dialog will be shown if no online map could be displayed correctly to allow manual loading of a local map.
- Read ArcGIS shapes: Select Attribute dialog extended to assign ID and Description from dBase attributes, if any.
- Save Button: No Save File dialog is shown any more, if no shapes are available for saving (e.g. just adapted maps), to avoid confusion when saving maps coordinates.
- Save Button (Bugfix): Coordinates of georeferenced maps have only been saved, when "Save as SQL Geo Objects" was selected. Now they are saved in any case.
- Load maps (Bugfix): The artificial background map of georeferenced maps, which were not strictly north aligned, has been calculated wrongly, which might have caused incorrect aspect ratios on the working area. This has been fixed.
- GPS: The current position will only be displayed, if more than 3 satellites are available.
- ArcGIS shapes support:
- Adapted to 64bit MS Access Database Engine for reading dBase attribute files.
- Bugfix: Boundary calculation when saving multi object shapes has been corrected.
- Bugfix: Attributes from dBase attribute file have not been shown if there was just one line.
New features and fixes:
- Help support by pressing the Windows Help key (usually 'F1' key).
- Normally, when loading a shape, an appropriate map is generated automatically. But if the GIS Editor is offline, this is not possible. Thus a new feature has been added to allow loading a local map, if the creation from a map service fails.
New features and fixes:
- New assignment for TAB separated text files import added: MTB/Q (German Messtischblatt)
New features and fixes:
- GIS Editor import wizard implemented to load samples from TAB separated text files (with file name extension .shp2)
- When touching a toggle button of the sample list with the mouse, the appropriate geography object will be illuminated
New features and fixes:
- Bugfix: Create tooltips for geo objects when reading ArcView shapes
- Bugfix: Clockwise created polygons must be reverted for saving them as SQL geographies. The vertices of the polygons themselves at the working area must be reverted, too, otherwise in edit mode the adjacent vertices are catched.
New features and fixes:
- Sample Detection tool added
- New shape format added for saving: TAB separated text files (could be imported by DWB modules Import Wizard)
- Support for ArcView shape dBase files (attributes):
- Switched to Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 to support 64 bit operating systems
- Read attributes when loading shape files
- Write attributes when saving shape files
